Dan Thompson Jr. age 75, of Harrison, OH died Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the Good Samaritian Hospital in Cincinnati, OH.

He was born on January 2, 1933 in Hazard, KY to Dan Sr. and Emily (Jones) Thompson. Mr. Thompson retired from William Powell Valve Company in Cincinnati after 43 years of service. On April 19, 1951 he married Nora Hensley in Cincinnati, OH.

His wife survives along with three sons, Danny R. Thompson (Donna), Glenn Thompson (Beverly) & Danny Thompson Jr. (Pam) and one daughter, Deborah Herzog (Bill) all of Harrison, OH. Five brothers - Buster, Johnny, Ed, Jim & Lloyd Thompson, two sisters - Flora Brewer & Frances Baker, five grandchildren - Tammy, Vernon, Billy, Danny Jr., & Sarah and four great grandchildren - Toby, Tessa, Chris & Tyler.

He was preceeded in death by his parents and sisters, Loura Vantilburg & Lula Hill.

Visitation will be Monday, January 5, 2009 from 4-7pm followed by services at 7pm all at Jackman Kercheval Meyers Funeral Home, Harrison, OH. Pastor Mark Klette officiating. Burial at Glen Haven Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family.

Born January 15, 1946 in Harrison, OH she was the daughter of the late Richard A. & Elizabeth (Sieter) Johnston. She worked for Huberts & US Shoe.

Ms. Johnston is survived by her daughters Cindy Scott & Lora Scott both of Bright, IN. She will also be missed by her grandchildren Kyle Scott & Sierra McAllister; siblings Richard V. (Sally) Johnston, Orvell (Darlene) Johnston, Keith Johnston, Frances (John) Walters & Flora Mae (Dave) Hayes and many nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Evelyn Metz.

Mervin Arthur Gunter, 79, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville, Indiana.

Loving husband of Mary, Dear father of Donald (Brenda), Daryl (Amy), Ronald (Linda) & Randy Gunter and Sheryl (Steve) Shane - all of Batesville. He will be missed by his 13 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren, as well as his 2 brothers Harold & Kendall Gunter fo Batesville and his sister Lavonne Huber of Sunman.

Mervin was born on June 2, 1929 to Vernon and Edna (Richter) Gunter in Batesville, IN. He was owner and operator of M.A. Gunter Trucking until 1961 and farmed for many years on his own farms. He married his wife, Mary (Hummell) on December 3, 1949 in Batesville and was a long time member of Adams Lutheran Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by four brothers, Estal, Dale, Allen & Bobby Gene Gunter and one sister Velma Belter.

Visitation, Sunday 4-7pm at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville, IN. Funeral Monday, December 29, 2008, 11:00am at Adams Lutheran Church. Friends may also join the family Monday at 10:00am for the preocession to the church from the Funeral Home.

Born August 3, 1932 in Cincinnati, OH he was the son of the late Harry Sr. & Lesta Ann (Shelton) Basham. He was a Union Pipe Fitter for Local 669.

Mr. Basham is survived by his children Karen Tuschel, Sharon Ruffolo, Richard E. Basham, Robert F. McCarter & Becky Hamilton. He will also be missed by 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, brothers Mike & Robert Basham and ex-wife Sandra (Wagner) Basham.

Henry Russell of Franklin County, IN went home to spend Christmas with his Lord Saturday, December 20, 2008 at the age of 78. He was born November 7, 1930 to Wesley & Eva (Banks) Russell of Clay County, Kentucky. He married the love of his life Freda Bennett on May 3, 1952. He loved his family & his friends. He retired from Cincinnati Flooring Co & was a member of the Carpenters Union as a Dry Waller.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Freda Russell, children Eva Joyce (Danny) Livengood of Cedar Grove, IN, Cheryl (Brent) Eresman of Springfield, OH & Dan Russell of West Harrison, IN; grandchildren Krista “Livengood” (Chris) Cooke of Evansville, Katrina & Micahel Eresman of Springfield, OH & Rachel Eresman of Cincinnati, OH; sister Pauline McQueen of West Harrison, IN as well as numerous family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Lincoln, Virgil, Wesley, Fred & Roy Russell and Lucy McDaniel.

Born November 25, 1929 in New Castle, KY he was the son of the late Matthew & Elizabeth (Tharp) Devore. He married Dora “Sally” Glass on February 28, 1953 in Carrolton, KY. She preceded him in death. He then married Betty Hall. He worked as a heavy equipment operator/engineer for O’Rourke Wrecking Co. and was a member of the Ohio Operators & Engineers Union.

Mr. Devore is survived by his wife Betty Devore; children Charles (Debbie) Devore Jr., Larry (Cathy) Teters, Rita (Henry) Howard, Carolyn Devore & Kevin (Trisha) Devore; 35 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren & sisters Ursel (Gene) Renfro, Juanita McClellan & Theresa Devore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Dora “Sally” M. Devore, children Glenn Teters, Wilma Jester & Charlotte Harris and brother David Devore.

Born April 22, 1933 in Dearborn County, IN, she was the daughter of the late Edmund & Onabelle (Beach) Cook. She married Billy Frank Terry on September 16, 1952. She was a member of the Rockdale United Methodist Church & retired from Ross Public School working in the cafeteria.

Mrs. Terry is survived by her daughters Glenda (Don) Iacobucci of Okeana, OH & Darlene (late Walter) Scott of Cincinnati, OH. She will also be missed by her grandson W. Glenn Scott, great grandson Logan Scott and brother Clarence Cook of Greendale, IN. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Billy Terry on April 29, 1996 and her brother Eugene Cook.

She was a member of the Batesville United Methodist Church, Order Eastern Star Batesville Chapter 348 and Batesville Ladies Aux. Fire Dept.

Ms. Fullmer-Federle is survived by her daughter Katherine (Bob) Weber of Batesville, IN; 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents & husbands, she was preceded in death by her sons James, Wayne & Howard Fullmer; sisters Dorothy Pennington, Olive Crapo, Helen Noris, Gladys Hiles & Edna Kohrman and brothers Millard, David & Robert Ramer.

Born March 30, 1931 in Penntown, IN she was the daughter of the late Henry & Roszella (Haven) Biddle. She married Estal Gilbert Gunter on April 14, 1951 in Penntown & he preceded her in death on July 12, 2008. She was a member of Adams Lutheran Church in Batesville, F.O.E. 1130 Ladies Auxiliary and she loved to dance with her husband.

Mrs. Gunter is survived by her children Linda (Gary) Vincent, Garold (Sue) Gunter, Raymond (Marie) Gunter & Jan (Monica) Gunter all of Batesville; siblings Howard Biddle of Sunman, IN, Evelyn Beal of Cedar Grove, IN & Ruth Ann Peetz of Napoleon, IN. She will also be missed by 13 grandchildren & 20 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband & parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Mary Ellen Gartenman.

He was an US Army veteran. He married Doris Kuehn on July 20, 1957 in Harrison. He was a member of the Richwood Presbyterian Church in Walton, KY.

Mr. Emmert is survived by his wife Doris Emmert, daughters Julia (Mike) O’Reilly of Columbus, OH; Jennifer (Keith) Birkhold of Auburn, IN; Doris Ann (Christopher) Bryan of Grand Rapids, MI & Jean (Andrew) Eschenbach of Cincinnati, OH. He will also be missed by his 12 grandchildren.

Roy John William Westerfeld, age 89 years of Batesville, IN passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at St. Andrews Health Care.

Born December 6, 1918 in Batesville, he was the son of the late John F. & Lucinda (Fruchtnicht) Westerfeld. He was a retired welder from Roman Nobbe & before that, worked for American Lift in Greensburg, IN. He was a WWII US Army Veteran, 341 First Engineers and member of the American Legion Post 271, VFW Post 3183 & Batesville Eagles Aerie 1130. He attended St. John United Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife Faith (Adams-Jobst) Westerfeld. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half brother John Westerfeld & half sister Ruth Hunsinger.

James Elton Rimstidt, age 88 years of Greensburg, IN formerly of Napoleon, IN passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital.

Born March 17, 1920 in Howell, MI, he was the son of the late James Philip & Anna Marie (Henneke) Rimstidt. He married Berdella Lydia Bauer on June 13, 1946 at Crossroads Church, and she survives. He was a 1938 graduate of Napoleon High School & was on their Basketball team. He retired from James River Co. in Greensburg and was also a long time farmer. Mr. Rimstidt was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Napoleon where he was Past Superintendent of the Sunday School & Past Church Council.

Mr. Rimstidt is survived by his wife Berdella Lydia Rimstidt, sons James Donald (Barbara Wilson) Rimstidt of Christiansburg, VA; Tom (Cindy) Rimstidt of Osgood, IN & Dan (Diana) Rimstidt of Loveland, OH. He will also be missed by his grandchildren Amy Harrelson, Phillip Rimstidt & Heather Bowling and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Margaret Fruchtnicht, Mary Legenhause & Annabell Moeller.

Melvin E. Yorn, age 90 of Batesville, IN passed away Friday, October 3, 2008 at St. Andrews Health Campus.

He was born January 18, 1918 in Batesville to Lula E. (Yorn) Bessler. He married Evelyn S. Belter on June 27, 1948 in Indianapolis, IN.

Mr. Yorn was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster for meritous Service in WWII. He served in the Pacific and European theater of operations. He worked as a Supervisor for Union Furniture Company and was a member of the Batesville United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his sons Joel (Jane) Yorn of Indianapolis, Jon (Jane) Yorn of Oldenburg and Mark (Laurie) Yorn of Batesville; sister Helen Harmon of Batesville; 9 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren as well. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Yorn on June 12, 2003.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 7, 2008, 10:00am at Batesville United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Marhanka officiating. Mrs. Lindsay is survived by her children Bruce Smith of Ft. Wayne, IN; Chuck (Kim) Smith of Morres Hill, IN; Donna Smith of Norwood, OH & Roger Lindsay of Colerain Twp., OH. She will also be missed by her 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren & siblings Jim Mullins, Ann Overbey & Una Bishop. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Russell Lindsay.

Mr. Back is survived by his daughters Lana (Martin) Harmeyer & Tracy Back both of Batesville, IN & son James Michael (Nina) Back of Indianapolis, IN. Born July 11, 1931 in Batesville, he was the son of the late Vernon & Edna (Richter) Gunter. Mr. Gunter started and was owner/operator of Gunter Bulldozing and a life long farmer. He married Mable Biddle on April 14, 1951 in Penntown, IN. He was a member of Adams Lutheran Church & F.O.E. 1130 Batesville. He loved to dance with his wife.

Mr. Gunter is survived by his wife Mable Gunter, daughter Linda (Gary) Vincent; sons Garold (Sue) Gunter, Raymond (Marie) Gunter & Jan (Monica) Gunter all of Batesville, IN. He will also be missed by 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, sister Lavonne Huber of Blue Creek & brothers Harold, Mervin & Kendall Gunter all of Batesville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Velma Belter & brothers Dale, Allen & Bobby Gene Gunter.

Martha Rose (nee Gale) of Harrison, age 85, passed away July 10, 2008. Martha graduated from Cincinnati College of Music in 1945. She taught music in public school as well as private piano lessons. She was a choir director, organist and an accomplished pianist. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary sorority for women educators. She was past president of the Harrison High School Alumni and was a member of the Village Historical Society and the Ohio Music Education Association. She was honored the national Valley Forge Teacher Medal award. She was a long time member of St. John’s United Church of Christ.

She is survived by several cousins and was preceded in death by her husband, Earl J. Carden and her parents Albert and Clara Gale.

Visitation is at the Jackman Kercheval Meyers Funeral Home in Harrison, Ohio on Saturday, July 12th, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM with funeral services immediately following. Burial will be in Glen Haven Cemetery.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Harrison.

As a sophomore at East Central High School, Rachel played soccer, clarinet and ran track. She really liked sports and music but had a real love for animals. Rachel also enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends.

In addition to her parents, she will be truly missed by her sister Stephanie and brother Jordan Meece; Grandparents Ada Ryan and Gordon Fitzwater of Cincinnati, and Irene Meece of Harrison. She will also be missed by her many caring aunts, uncles and friends. She was preceeded in death by her Grandfather David Meece of Harrison.

He was awarded the Bronze Star & the Purple Heart.

In 1984 she was the Indiana State T.O.P.S. queen and received the key to the city of Greensburg. She married Carl Walterman on April 7, 1945 at St. John United Church of Christ where she was also a member.

Born August 25, 1934 in Whitesburg, KY he was the son of the lat Benjamin & Frona (Ambergy) Potter. He married Gloria Gehring on June 19, 1979 in Liberty, IN. He worked for H & H Steel Co. in Cincinnati, OH.

Mr. Potter is survived by his wife of 28 1/2 years Gloria Potter, children Sheila Denoff of South Lebanon, OH, Ben (Tammy) Potter of South Lebanon, OH, John (Barb) Moore of Harrison, OH & Thomas (Nichole) Moore of Harrison, OH; 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; brothers Glenn, Hargis, George, Ferl & Everett Potter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children Elvin Potter & Joleen Moore and 3 brothers.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, February 14, 2008 from 6-8pm at Kings Point Church of God, 5600 St. Hwy 48 South, Maineville, OH. Burial will be in Potter-Bates Cemetery in Whitesburg, KY.

He was a graduate of William Henry Harrison High School, worked as a quality control clerk for the IRS and was a member of St. John the Baptist church in Harrison, OH. He is survived by his sister Ruth Ann (Arthur) Little of Bright, IN and very close personal friend Cathy Frey.

Born March 18, 1936 in Berry, KY but raised in Greensburg, IN, he was the son of the late William & Lottie Carter. He retired from the former Mitchell Timber Co. He married Vivien Bostic on April 4, 1958 in Greensburg. He was a member of New Point Christian Church and former member of the Tree City Car Club.

Mr. Carter is survived by his wife Vivien Carter; sons Denver Carter & Dwayne Carter both of Crawfordsville, IN & daughter Debbie (Jerry) Borgman of Batesville, IN; 3 granddaughters Daphnie Taylor, Nickie Mahon & Lorie Borgman; 5 Great Grandchildren: Brodie & Brock Mahon, Trenton, Karynn & Evan Taylor; brother Howard Carter of Milford, IN & sisters Betty Bryant & Ruby Herbert both of Greensburg, IN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by and infant son Alan Lane Carter and brother Vernon Carter.

Evelyn Luhring, age 89 years of Maplewood, MN formerly of Tucson, AZ passed away Sunday, January 20, 2008 in Maplewood.

Born October 11, 1918 in Sunman, IN where she was raised and attended school, she was the daughter of the late Estal Christian & Evelyn (Schrader) Nieman. She was formerly employed at the Peoples Bank and Trust in Sunman, then AAL Reservation at Lunken Airport in Cincinnati and then AAL Reservation at National Airport in Washington, D.C. She married Curtis C. Luhring on December 18, 1943 who died Sept. 7, 1997.

Mrs. Luhring is survived by her daughter Elsie (Jay) Luhring Clark of Maplewood, MN and son David Curtis (Gloria) Luhring of Plano, TX. She will also be missed by her grandchildren Elizabeth Tranka, Andrew David Luhring and Curtis Andrew Hayes and great granddaughter Shelby Luhring.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 26, 2008 from 10:00—11:30 am at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville, IN followed by graveside services at St. John Church Cemetery in Penntown, IN with Rev. David Johnston officiating.

He was an Air Force veteran during the Korean War and member of the Yeager Benson American Legion Post 199 & VFW Post 7570 in Harrison, OH. He married Gladys Milburn in Covington, KY on September 22, 1983. He was in construction concrete & built most of Rolling Acres & then became Maintenance Supervisor until he retired.

Mr. Sweeney is survived by his wife Gladys Sweeney; children Karen Sweeney of Cincinnati, OH, Terri (John) Leveillee of Templeton, MA, Kathy Rivera of Templeton, MA, Linda Slaven of Cincinnati, OH, Thomas (Theresa) Sweeney of Naples, FL & Timothy Sweeney of Cincinnat, OH; sisters Janet Modisett of Medina, OH & Maureen Vagnini of New Richmond, OH; 15 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother James Sweeney.
