Obituary

Alma Louise Vierling, age 85 of Batesville, IN passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Margaret Mary Health in Batesville. Born February 13, 1929 in Franklin County, IN she was the daughter of Herman & Lena (Ludeker) Schutte. Alma grew up on a farm with chickens and cows. Alma started working when she was 12 years old. Her father had died from tuberculosis and her mother had 5 young children, so Alma also had to help out around the house and farm. She babysat, did gardening and housekeeping. Alma raised her children to look out for each other and to help out at home. After working, Alma would come home, garden, can and try to keep ahead of the children. She felt especially close to God when she had her own children. Every year Alma's family has a big family reunion at St. Mark's. Alma likes to dance and loves music. She grew up in a house full of music. Her dad could play any instrument, her mom sang and they would all square dance. On October 26, 1946 she married Gilbert Vierling at the St. Louis Church Parsonage and he preceded her in death on July 21, 1992. She was a member of the St. Mark Lutheran Church and the Batesville VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Alma retired from Margaret Mary Community Hospital after 25 years in housekeeping. Alma is survived by her children Mary (Late Cecil) Spaulding, Rose Marie Gauck, Laura (Bob) Holcomb, Marchell Ann (Late Keith) Graves, Carol Hooten, Sandy Vierling, Linda Morris, Bruce (Christina) Vierling, John (Debbie) Vierling, Ralph (Judiann Porubcan) Vierling, and Lloyd (Lisa) Vierling. She will also be missed by her sister Eileen Stirn of Batesville and her brother Bob Schutte of Oldenburg; many grandchildren, step grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 6 brothers and sisters and 2 great grandsons. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 31, 2014 from 1 PM until time of services at 2 PM all at St. Mark Lutheran Church with Rev. Jill Kepler Campbell presiding. Burial will follow services at St. Louis Church Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Mark Lutheran Church c/o the funeral home.
