Alona Jean Hafer, age 65 of Batesville, IN passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at her home. Born January 28, 1947 in Covington, KY she was the daughter of Eugene & Laura Lee (Bailey) Massey. She graduated from Holms High School in Covington, KY in 1965. For many years, Alona was the Assistant to the Clerk Treasurer in Batesville and then later worked at Woodwinds in Batesville. Alona will be remembered as a good hearted person for her love of her family & friends and also animals, especially her pets. She loved to garden and be outdoors. She liked to travel and went to England twice. She had made really dear friends over there from her trips. Her family was scared for her to go by herself but she had no fears. She had met some ladies from Europe on the internet with a Fan Forum for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and eventually went over for a Buffy Convention with these ladies and just had a ball. Later, they all met in New York, which Alona was able to go despite have back surgery 4 months earlier. Alona married Richard Hafer in Covington on August 7, 1965 and he preceded her in death on August 24, 1996. She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law Leah & Richard Crowe of Batesville & her son Jeff Hafer of Batesville. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews and tons of friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a half brother Fred Massey. Visitation will be Sunday, January 6, 2013 from 2-4pm at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, IN followed by a Memorial Service at 4pm on Sunday with Rev. Bill Vines officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Hansen Center whom was very good to Alona.
