Bennie Thomas Jr., age 79 of New Point, IN passed away Monday, July 2, 2007 at Kindred Hospital in Greenwood, IN. Born June 6, 1928 in Whitesburg, KY he was the son of the late Bennie & Bertha (Carpenter) Thomas, Sr. & step son of the late Florence Thomas & H.C. Carpenter. He worked in the coal mines for 25 years and was raised by his grandparents the late Dan & Polly Thomas. He is retired from American Lifts in Greensburg, IN after 18 years. He loved spending time with friends and family & loved fishing, hunting, gardening & reading. He married Louise Ison on April 3, 1948 in Whitesburg, KY & is a member of the New Point Christian Church. Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife Louise Thomas; sons Lanny C. (Debbie) Thomas of New Point, IN; Ronny C. (Charlene) Thomas of Batesville, IN & Jeffrey (Stephanie) Thomas of Batesville, IN. He will also be missed by 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; brother Cornelius Thomas of Florida & sisters Mrs. Art (Wilma) Carson of Florida, Mrs. Thurman (Jean) Patterson of Tennessee & Mrs. Newell (Joyce) Phillips of Tennessee and several nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, step parents & grandparents, he was preceded in death by his son Danny (Debra) Thomas Sr. of Greensburg & 1 granddaughter. Visitation will be Thursday, July 5, 2007 from 5-8 PM at New Point Christian Church. Funeral Services will be Friday, July 6, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the church with Pastor Mark Vice officiating. Burial will be in Rossburg Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to New Point Christian Church or New Point Fire Dept.
