Betty J. Fischer suffered in recent years from a series of illnesses, and after valiantly fighting her complications from these illnesses, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 19, 2010, with family at her side. Betty was born on Valentines Day, 1937, in Froid Montana. As an infant, her family moved to Sidney, Montana, where she spent much of her life. As a young girl, she had childhood memories of her grandfather, who was one of the original pioneers in eastern Montana in the late 1800's. Her grandparents became friend with Chief Sitting Bull and his wife after nursing Sitting Bull's wife back to health from a bout of pneumonia. Mom loved to sing, and in her early teen years, during the Golden Age of radio, she would sing live on her local station. She must have been pretty good because her future husband, Bill, heard her sing and determined to meet the girl with the beautiful voice. Dad was successful in his pursuit as they recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. Mom became ill her freshman year of high school and was forced to drop out of school that year. She never made it back to high school, so she was very adamant about her children getting their educations', avidly supporting their extracurricular activities as well as classroom learning. In the early 70's, mom loved in Philipsburg, MT. where dad & her managed the Pintlar Hotel. Mom also lived many years in Bozeman, Montana, along the Gallatin River, and loved watching the eagles swoop down from their nests high in the cottonwood trees, and snatch trout from the river. She loved her pets, both cats and dogs, but was especially fond of her various Siamese cats she had as pets over the years. She also loved to dance in her younger days, as she and dad would polka and jitterbug many nights away. Her favorite activity though, was cooking home-cooked meals for family and friends and enjoying their company. She had an uncanny ability to judge peoples' character. It was very difficult to pull a fast one on mom, as her children discovered on many occasions. In the recent past, during one of Mom's many hospitalizations, she found great peace, forgiveness, and comfort, when she accepted Jesus as her Savior. In her last days, she had peace that passes human understanding, knowing she would spend eternity at the feet of Jesus, and walk the golden streets of Heaven. Betty is survived by her husband, William (Bill) Fischer, and daughter Cindy, of Harrison, OH., son, Rodney and daughter-in-law, Patti of Lawrenceburg, IN, Brothers-in-law Gabe (Viola) Fischer, Leo (Carrie) Fischer of Sidney, MT, and Ted (Terri) Fischer of Houston, TX, sister-in-law Johanna (Curtis) Bosiak, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved. She will be greatly missed by numerous family and friends from around the country. She was preceded in death by her parents, William (Bill) and Mary Norton, her sister Clara DeShaw, and brother Billy Norton and his wife Jane, as well as brothers and sister-in-law Joe and Lois Fischer, Joe and Celia Pfau, and Harold and LaVerne Jorgenson, all of Sidney, MT, and William (Bill) DeShaw of Bozeman, MT.
