Charles Edward Smith of Okeana, OH passed away on Saturday, June 30th at the age of 74 in Cincinnati, OH. Born on November 15, 1937 in Harrison, OH to David and Beatrice (nee: Blankenship) Smith as one of eight children. Charles married Geraldine "Gerrie" Smith on June 24th in Pigeon Forge, TN 34 years ago. He was a member of the Macedonia Christian Church where he served as a Deacon for 15 years. Charles was raised in the Harry S. Johnson F&AM Lodge #641 and later became a member of Snow Lodge F&AM #193, he also belonged to the Royal Arch Lodge #158 of Cummingsville, OH. The Kentucky Colonel also sang in the Harrison Senior Choir every Monday. Charles was an avid euchre player who enjoyed being outdoors. He loved to fish and work in his garden along with playing bingo and the Cincinnati Reds. His wife said he never knew a stranger. Charles was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. He will be missed by all. He is survived by his loving wife Geraldine Gerrie' Smith; children Pam Sowers, Debbie Rice, Milly Schwegman, Pamela Shanks, Phyllis Smith, Mike Sowers, Jeff Sowers, Phillip Sowers & Charles Smith Jr.; 20 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren along with his siblings Ralph Smith, Joe Crank and Juanita Souders. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers James Crank & Harold Smith and sisters, Virginia Lee Smith & Barbara Brown. Visitation, Tuesday, July 3, 2012 from 11am until time of funeral service at 1pm, all at the Macedonia Christian Church, corner of Okeana-Drewsburg Rd. & California Rd. in Okeana, OH. Pastor Scott Holland officiating. Masonic services are prior to visitation at 10:30am. Burial will follow in the Glen Haven Cemetery, Harrison, OH. Memorials may be given to the Humane Society c/o the funeral home. The family would like to extend their thanks to all the nurses at Mercy-Fairfield Hospital CVU.
