David Emery Hanson, 72, of Sunman, Indiana passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Edgewood Hospital in Kentucky. He was born on June 22, 1951 in San Diego, California as the son of Robert and Verna Jeanne (nee Gulseth) Watkins.

Dave graduated from El Capitan High School in Lakeside, California. He then went on to work for 35 years as a custom window covering installation for JCPenney.

Dave was ornery and loved to whistle at his family and friends to get their attention.  His wife, Robin, would let him know that you whistle for dogs, not people.  However, he continued and people still responded.  Not many dogs though.  Dave loved race cars, motorcycles, camping and cruising.  He loved his family dearly.

He is survived by his loving wife, Robin (nee Bates) Hanson; son, Jesse (Ashley) Hanson; grandchildren: Ezekiel, Izabella, and Ezra Hanson; brother, James Hanson; sisters: Pamela Andrews and Shirley Lingle.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Mary Alice Essex; father-in-law, Ronald Bates; brothers-in-law Michael Watson, Samuel Lingle and Alan Bates.  He was also pre-deceased by his niece Erin Michelle Watson.

A memorial service will be held on August 3, 2024 at 10:30 am at Bright Christian Church with Pastor Greg Edens officiating. Memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association by mailing to Meyers Funeral Home, PO Box 202, Batesville, IN 47006.
