Donald Ray Gellert, age 72 of Batesville, IN, formerly of Bright, IN passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011, 11:55 p.m. at his home with his family. Born March 8, 1938, son of the late Albert and Gladys (Renck) Gellert, Sawdon Ridge Road, Guilford, IN. Don attended and graduated from Bright High School in 1956 followed by a two year enlistment in the United States Army stationed in Greenland. Upon completion of his enlistment, he was employed by Monsanto, where he worked as a lab supervisor and retired after 35 years. On October 14, 1960, Don married his wife of 50 years, Mary (Knue) Gellert of Dover, IN. Don and Mary worked in real estate for 20 years and were co-owners of Keystone Realty in Bright, IN. After retirement from Monsanto, he worked part time for NPC Plastics out of Wichita, KS for several years. The community elected Don to serve on the Sunman Dearborn School Corporation Board of Education for two terms. Don is survived by his wife Mary Gellert of Batesville, IN; children Kelly Pettit and her husband Greg of Sunman, IN; Kevin Gellert and his wife Julie of Clayton, IN; Krista Ketcham and her husband Paul of Sunman, IN; Kurt Gellert and his wife Amy of Carmel, IN; grandchildren Keri Pettit Rauch, St. Leon, IN; Kati, Kyle and Kole Pettit, Sunman, IN; Davis and Drew Gellert, Clayton, IN; Maddy, Mitchell and Mary Kate Ketcham, Sunman, IN; great grand child Kailyn Stanley, Sunman, IN. He will also be missed by his siblings Dale Gellert, Aurora, IN and Norman Gellert, Guilford, IN. There will be no visitation; however, a memorial mass in Don's honor will be held at St. Anthony of Padua, Catholic Church, Morris, IN on Saturday, February 26 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Pascal Nduka officiating followed by Military Honors.
