Donald V. Ingersoll, age 88 of Batesville, IN formerly of Peoria, IL died November 4, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Payallup, Washington where he had recently moved to be near his daughter and family. Donald was born on the family farm near Green Valley, IL to Vernice G. & Marjorie M. Ingersoll on January 19, 1922. He married his high school sweetheart, Jeanne J. Darling on November 23, 1941; she died on October 19, 2009. He is survived by his daughter Donna Jean and husband Terry Richmond of Federal Way, WA; his granddaughter Aimee and husband Patrick Rhoads of Federal Way, WA; grandson Justin Richmond and wife Caroline of Washington, D.C.; great granddaughter Rowan Rhoads; and one brother Bruce C. Ingersoll and wife Carol of Morton, IL. Donald grew up in Peoria attending Longfellow Grade School, Woodruff High School, and graduating from Bradley University in 1948. Don was proud to serve his country during World War II as a Captain in the Army Air Force. He was a pilot and bomber pilot flight instructor. Don was a terrific dancer and taught ballroom dancing while a student at Bradley. He and Jeanne danced beautifully together and were members and club officers of the Prom Club in Peoria. After graduation he and Jeanne both worked at Caterpillar later moving to LaGrange, IL, working for Clark Equipment Co. and owner of Ingersoll Hardware in LaGrange. He also was owner of Ingersoll Hardware in Peoria at Forrest Hill and Gale until retirement when they moved to Batesville, IN to be near their daughter Donna and family. While living in Peoria, Donald was a member of Forrest Hill Methodist Church, Illinois Lodge 263, Scottish Rite of Peoria and Mohammed Temple Shrine. He marched with the Shrine Drill Patrol for many years. Don loved to fish and had many vacations fishing in Wisconsin and a memorable trip to Northern Canada with brother, Bruce. In later years he was a great champion of conservative causes, contributing and writing many letters supporting America and its' Constitution. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 9, 2010 from 11am 1pm with Masonic Services at 10:45am at Meyers Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 1pm. Military graveside rites will follow at the Batesville Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project c/o the funeral home.
