Donald Ray Minning, 78, of New Point, IN passed away April 2, 2012 at Arbor Grove Village Nursing home. Born Feb. 18, 1934 to Virgil H. & Selma (Starks) Minning. He was married to Viola Ruth Hart on June 13, 1954 at New Point. After graduating from New Point High School in 1952 he worked at Rex in Connersville several years before joining the Greensburg Fire Dept., retiring in 1996 after serving 37 years. He also worked part-time for Maddux Moving Co. and enjoyed restoring antique pump organs and fire equip. which he displayed at Fire Musters and parades. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the New Point Christian Church and formerly served as an elder at the First Christian Church in Greensburg. He was a member of I.V.F.A., a Golden Eagle of the Greensburg Eagles #927, charter member of the New Point Kiwanis Club and the Decatur Co. Historical Society. He is survived by his wife, Viola Minning, sons Paul F. Minning and Thomas D. Minning Sr., grandchildren Thomas Jr. "Tuggy", Trenten, Melana, Meredithe, Friedrich, & Clarise Minning, all of New Point, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Donald R. Minning Jr., who died in 1979 at the age of 23, his parents, siblings Mary Williams, June Eineman, Ralph "Bud" Minning and John Lewis Minning who died in infancy. Visitation will be Thursday, April 5, 2012 from 3-8pm at New Point Christian Church. Services will be Friday, April 6, 2012 at 10:30am at church with Mark Vice officiating. Burial will be in Rossburg Cemetery, New Point, IN. Memorials are suggested to New Point Christian Church Building Fund c/o the funeral home which can be brought to the visitation/service or mailed to Meyers Funeral Home.
