Ellsworth "Cookie" Christian Cook, 85years old of New Point, IN passed away Monday, May 3, 2010 in Columbus, IN. On July 31, 1924 he was born to Raleigh and Anna (Schomber) Cook in Batesville, Indiana. He married Nelrose Mary Ruble on June 30, 1945 at the New Point Christian Church in New Point, IN. The retired Union Furniture employee was always busy helping others. If a neighbor or a friend needed a hand fixing something or building a house, the handyman and his family were there. For years he was known as the bellringer' at the New Point Christian Church. Since he lived right across the street, he would ring the bell for services and then stay to greet everyone that attended church with a warm smile and a handshake. The New Point Christian Church member, served as a church Deacon for over 40 years, Trustee for 28+ years and Treasurer for 8years. "Cookie" as he was fondly known to most, truly enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling in addition to his many building' projects. He was a true loving family man, caring not only for his own, but for his church family as well. He will be missed by his wife, Nelrose; daughter, Carol Ann (Robert) Kendall of Greensburg; sons, Charles (Bernice) Cook of New Point, Jerry (Julie) Cook of Oakhill, WV; 10 grandchildren, Travis and Tracey Cook of New Point, Trevor (Peggy) Cook of New Point, Ashley Cook of Greensburg, Kim (Steve) Scudder of Greensburg, Mandy (Jayson) Boyers of Greenwood, IN, Jenny (Rick) Swango of Greensburg, Meghann Long, Dylan Long-Cook and Larking Long-Cook of West Virginia; along with 9 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Helen Schene, William Cook & Donald Cook. Visitation, Tuesday, May 4, 2010 from 4-7pm and funeral services, Wednesday, May 5, 2010, 10:00am all at New Point Christian Church in New Point, IN. Pastor Mark Vice officiating, with burial to follow in the Rossburg Cemetery in New Point, IN. Memorials may be made to the church building fund or South Central Indiana Hospice c/o the funeral home.
