Esther Vivian Prakel, age 94 of Batesville, Indiana, died Friday, March 11, 2011 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. The Daughter of Frederick and Edna Opal (nee: Martin) McClanahan was born August 13, 1916 in Napoleon, IN. She graduated from Napoleon High School in 1933 and went to work for the Napoleon State Bank as a teller, until she married. In 1934 Chester Yorn and Esther Vivian McClanahan were joined in marriage and they had two children, Sherry and Douglas Yorn. After Chester's death in 1955, she went back to work for The Roper Co. of New York by conducting customer product survey interviews. She then married Harold Prakel in 1965. Together they enjoyed many sporting events at Batesville High School and were voted #1 Bulldog Fans. Then in 1997 Harold passed away. During the busy season, Esther worked for Fischmer's Floral Shoppe and Artmeyer's Floral Shop. She also worked the Election polls for many years. As a member of the Batesville United Methodist Church since April 1937, she was very active in her church. She served as the Sunday School Superintendent, a teacher, and the Children's music director and piano accompanist on Sunday mornings. For over 20 years, Esther ran the Church bake sale during their Fall Turkey Dinner. As a long standing member of the Batesville Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #348, she earned her 50 year pin in the 1990's. Esther took pride in always looking her best right up until the end. One might say, at age 94 she led a full life and Batesville will greatly miss her. She is survived by her daughter Sherry (Daniel) Yorn Calabro of Selden, NY; grandchildren - Douglas (Kim) Calabro, Robby (Ginger) Calabro, Michael Calabro, Kristen (Douglas) Calabro Corrigan, and Michelle (Curtis) Yorn Kuhn, Gabrielle (the late Brett) Yorn Bittinger, and Renee (Israel) Yorn Hanks; great grandchildren - Daniel, Kacey, Alex and Noah Calabro, Cheyenne and Savanna Corrigan, Rachel and Kyle Burns, Christopher Kuhn, Michael Murray III, Douglas Jonathan and Taylor Murray, Kaleb, Trenton and Kaisyn Hanks; nephews and nieces - Sandra (Dale) Bultman Dickey, George (Mary) Bultman, Nancy Jane Bultman; great nephews and nieces - Bradley (Mary) Dickey, Benjamin (Kim) Dickey, Rebecca Bultman and Christopher Bultman; and great great nephews and nieces Clair Monique Dickey, Ian Bradley Dickey and Aubrey Ellen Dickey. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her son Douglas Yorn, brother Robert Martin McClanahan and sister Sarah Madge Bultman. Visitation, Thursday, March 17, 2011 from 11am until time of Funeral Service beginning 1pm, at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, IN.
