Eugene Merle Schrader, age 79 of Batesville, IN passed away Monday, April 30, 2012 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. Born September 13, 1932 in Batesville, IN he was the son of Errett C. & Ethel (Haessig) Schrader. He graduated from Batesville High School in 1950 then went into the US Air Force during Korea. He married Kathleen Pearce on September 3, 1960 at Adams Lutheran Church and worked for Union Furniture, then retired from Rom-Weber. Mr. Schrader was a member of Adams Lutheran Church, VFW 3183, American Legion Prell-Bland 271 and FOE 1130. Gene loved to spend time with his family and especially his 6 grandchildren. Some of you may know this about our father but for those of you who did not let me share this with you. He never met a person he didn't like or know, he wanted to know the life of waitresses, store clerks, and receptionist. He knew in his head the birthdays and anniversaries of just about everyone in Batesville. Gene was an avid golfer, like to watch basketball games on TV especially Purdue. He enjoyed going to Batesville High School basketball games and cheering the Bulldogs on. When he could not make it to a game he would follow them on the radio. Eugene is survived by his sons Steven Schrader of Loveland, OH & David Schrader of Indianapolis, IN; daughters Donna (Donald) Steiss of Richardson, TX, Debbie Schrader of Batesville, IN & Diane (Scot) Anderson of Shelbyville, IN. He will also be missed by his grandchildren Laura, Matthew & Kurt Steiss, Alexsa & Danielle Schrader and Christopher Eldridge, sister Luella Hughes of Franklin, IN & Brother Bill Schrader of Batesville, IN. In addition to his wife, who preceded him on January 28, 2005 and his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers Errett L. & Clifford Schrader. Visitation will be Friday, May 4, 2012 from 5-8pm at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, IN. Funeral Services will be Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 10:00am at Adams Lutheran Church with Rev. William Powlen officiating. Burial will be in Adams Lutheran Church Cemetery with graveside military rites. Memorials are suggested to Adams Lutheran Church or Christ Hospital Foundation, and may be turned in or mailed to the funeral home.
