Everett Dean Emsweller, age 76 of Batesville, IN died Thursday, February 5, 2009 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville, IN. He was born in Franklin County on December 14, 1932 to the late Verl and Helen (Burchard) Emsweller. Everett graduated from Batesville High School in 1950 and played on one of the first high school football teams with leather helmets. He then joined the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. On November 27, 1954 he married Mary Carolyn Green in Batesville, IN. A long time farmer, Everett loved his farm, raising animals, growing corn, strawberries and tomatoes. His brother-in-law was able to attend college because Everett supported his schooling by selling tomatoes. After his father died, Everett began driving his daily school bus route and various events, continuing for 38 years in Bus #1. Survivors include his wife, two sons Kevin (Beth) and Doug (Marlene) Emsweller both of Batesville; a daughter Cindy (Jim) Lamping of Oldenburg; five grandchildren Chad, Kyle & Jason Emsweller and Grace & Jimmy Lamping; and one sister Diane Holzbacher of Sunman. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Emsweller and sisters, Velma McClain, Ruth Miller and Evelyn Rosemeyer. Visitation, Monday, February 9, 2009 from 4-7pm and funeral services, Tuesday, February 10, 2009, 10:30pm at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, Indiana with Reverend David Johnston officiating. Burial to follow at St. John (Huntersville) Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association or St. John Cemetery Fund.
