Gladys M. Nolte, 88, died peacefully on February 20, 2010 at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville, Ind. She was born June 20, 1921, the daughter of Lawrence and Dora (Niemeyer) Heffelmire, who preceded her in death. From Greensburg, formerly of Batesville, Gladys married Clinton Henry Nolte on March 13, 1944 in Boise, Idaho. Gladys and Clinton, were former owners of Noltes' Pharmacy in Batesville. She was a graduate of Dillsboro High School in 1939. She was a registered nurse after graduating from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing of Cincinnati. Gladys was a passionate supporter of the United Methodist Lebanon Children's Home, where she served on various boards and committees for many years and was the first woman president of the Board of Trustees. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church and was instrumental in initiating the Chrismon ornament tradition at the Batesville United Methodist Church. Gladys was also a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Gladys and Clinton enjoyed traveling in their RV after retirement and spending time with family and friends. She also took pleasure in sewing, reading and gardening. Along with her husband of 65 years, she is survived by two daughters, Catherine Nolte and Mary Nolte, both of Greensburg; three grandchildren, Katrina (Hawkins) Burton and husband of Whitestown, Cara (Hawkins) Wickens and husband of Bloomington and Clinton Wayne, of Lafayette; and great-grandson, Clayton Henry Burton. Gladys is also survived by one brother, Ronald (Eileen) Heffelmire, one sister, Marcella Gulley and sister-in-law, Mildred Heffelmire, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, John Heffelmire. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 25 at the Batesville United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at the Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the United Methodist Lebanon Children's Home, Batesville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or American Cancer Society.
