Herman Charles Kessens, age 71 years of New Point, IN passed away Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Arbor Grove Village in Greensburg, IN. Born February 13, 1940 in Franklin County, IN near Batesville he was the son of the late Harvey Kessens & Mildred (Draping) Kessens-Siebert. The Army Veteran during the Vietnam war was a member of New Point Christian Church, the American Legion, Greensburg Adult Center and The Power of the Past Group. He married Marjorie Kessens 24 years ago on Monday, February 28th. He retired from American Lifts in Greensburg and he also farmed. Herman liked being outdoors. He liked cutting wood, bailing hay, gardening and all kinds of farm work. He also liked to build things out of wood. His family said he was a jokester and would always pick on the kids and grandkids. He loved animals, but mostly his cat "Dirty Nose". He was a wonderful husband, great father and grandpa, loving brother and good friend to many. He will be dearly missed. Mr. Kessens is survived by his wife Marjorie Kessens, daughters Brenda (the late Jim & now Dallas R. Browning) Comer of Osgood, IN and Holly (Jim) Jones of Rushville, IN; step children Donna Risk and Carl Risk of Greensburg, IN and Carol (Larry) Ostendorf of Enochsburg, IN. He will also be missed by his grandchildren Michael D. & Katie Comer, Erin Browning, Casey and Cheyenne Chabre, Janica, Jimmy and Jenna Jones and Robert Risk; his brother Paul (Judy) Kessens of Greensburg, IN and his sister Darlene (Maurice) Budd of Greensburg, IN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Dale Kessens. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 1, 2011 from 11am until time of services at 1pm all at New Point Christian Church with Mark Vice officiating. Burial with Military Graveside Rites will be in Crossroads Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family.
