Howard W. Sarringhaus, age 95 years of Batesville, IN passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at The Waters of Batesville. Born March 20, 1915 in Ripley Co., IN he was the son of the late Henry & Emma (Camesasca) Sarringhaus. He loved the outdoors and was a life long farmer. He loved his cows, fishing, coonhunting & rabbit hunting. Mr. Sarringhaus was and member of St. John Lutheran Church in Napoleon, IN. He married Edna Wirth on August 23, 1941 and she preceded him in death Aug. 7, 1980. He was good at devining water & could find water but could also find gas wells. Several people have these wells because of him. Mr. Sarringhaus loved music and played the fiddle & banjo. In his younger years he played at a lot of dances. He was not one to ride around and waste gas. If he didn't need to go, he didn't. He only owned 3 vehicles in his life, a 1932 DeSoto, a 1948 Plymouth and a 1965 Dodge Pickup, and they were all bought used. He would also like to predict weather. He had his own system and could do this a month ahead and was very good at this. This could only be done on certain days of the month. He could still do this at the age of 95. Mr. Sarringhaus is survived by his sons Larry (Bertha) & Gayle (LaVonne) Sarringhaus both of Batesville, IN and daughters Darlene (Ritchie) Pettit of Attica, IN, Dian (Ronald) Krummy of Crothersville, IN & Peggy (Blair) Shinn of Batesville, IN. He will also be missed by 19 grandchildren & 15 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren, brothers Leroy, Harvey, Gilbert & Elmer Sarringhaus and sisters Elenora Fruchtnicht, Mary Sarringhaus & Clara Klingworth. Visitation will be Friday, November 26, 2010 from 5-8pm at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, IN & 10-11am Sat. Nov. 27th at St. John Lutheran Church in Napoleon, IN followed by services at 11:00am with Pastor Gary Groth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church.
