Obituary

James Edward Decker, age 80 passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at his home in Batesville, IN. Born May 10, 1935 in Batesville he is the son of Averil (Dorsett) & the late Melvin Decker. The 1953 graduate of Batesville High School went on to serve his county in the US Army during Korea. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Batesville Knights of Columbus #1461, American Legion Post #271 and VFW Post #1183. Jim retired from Lancaster Colony Commercial Products as a sales manager. Jim loved playing cards and the Sunday poker games at the Knights of Columbus. After returning from living in Las Vegas he learned the game of "Solo" and said it was the most frustrating yet wonderful game he has ever played. Jim will be remembered as the "Santa Man" for making many Mailbox Santa's. James married Marilyn Bennett on January 20, 1984 in Columbus, OH. He is survived by his wife Marilyn Decker, his mother Averil Decker of Pittsburgh, PA; children Jamie (Bruce) Decker-Walden of Indianapolis, IN, Jay (Sandy) Decker of Lexington, SC and Jason (Jill) Decker of Bettendorf, IA. He will also be missed by his grandchildren Whitney (Adam) Walden-Abdala, Ethan Walden, Tucker Walden, Nick Decker & Noah Decker along with his sister Janet Peters of Columbus, IN. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister Jackie Mederios. Graveside Services will be held Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 11:00am at St. Louis Cemetery with VFW & American Legion Military Honors. A Celebration of Life will follow graveside service at Knight of Columbus.
