Jeanne Jacqueline Ingersoll, 88, of Batesville, IN, passed away at 4:00 pm. on Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. She was born August 26, 1921, in Peoria, IL, a daughter of Clarence and Mildred Burbridge Darling. She married her high school sweetheart Donald V. Ingersoll in Peoria on Nov. 23, 1939, at St. Andrew's Church. She is survived by her husband of 67 years. Also surviving are her daughter Donna (Terry) Richmond of Indianapolis, IN; granddaughter Aimee M. (Patrick) Rhoads of Tacoma, WA; grandson U.S. Army Ranger Justin A. (Caroline) Richmond currently deployed overseas; and great granddaughter Rowan Rebecca Rhoads. Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents. Jeanne attended Bradley University in Peoria, studying Engineering- very unusual for a woman during WWII years. She worked 18 years at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Peoria, and after moving to LaGrange, worked for 20 years and retired from Western Electric, a branch of AT & T, commuting to her office in the Merchandise Mart of downtown Chicago and later near O'Hare Airport. She and husband Donald owned and operated Ingersoll Tru Value Hardware Stores in LaGrange, IL, and later in Peoria, IL, for many years. They retired and moved to Batesville, IN, in 1980 to be near daughter Donna and family. Jeanne and Donald thoroughly enjoyed ballroom dancing and were members of Prom Dancing Club in Peoria, IL for many years, serving as club officers. She also was active in Shrine activities with Don. Jeanne doted on her daughter, grandchildren and great granddaughter. She also thoroughly enjoyed her beloved pets, dogs Butch, Tyke, and Missy and cats Ralph and Blackie. Her life touched so many, and Jeanne will always joyfully remain in our hearts. There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Batesville LDS Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Bishop Pete Watkins will officiate. Burial will be at United Methodist Cemetery of Batesville. Meyers Funeral Home of Batesville is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Ripley County Indiana Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
