John David Hooten, 89, of Batesville, IN passed away Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. Born July 22, 1918 in Greensburg, IN he was the son of the late John Aylett & Maggie (Tatman) Hooten. He married Margaret A. Ferkenhoff on Aug. 8, 1942 at St. Louis Church. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII. He retired from Romwebers, was a member of St. Louis Church, Coonhunters Lodge & American Legion Post 271, Past Commander, Past District Representative with the Legion and Past Scout Master for Boyscout Troop 634. Mr. Hooten is survived by his wife Margaret A. Hooten, daughters Carolyn Griffin of Alexandria, KY, Patti Wuestefeld of Batesville, IN; Peggy Engelke of Soldotna, Alaska & Debbie Kramer of Batesville, IN; sons: Ronald J. Hooten of Batesville, IN; Larry Hooten of Batesville, IN and John J. Hooten of Lawrenceburg, IN; 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren & 1 great great grandson; brother Glenn Hooten of Greensburg, IN & sister Geneva Humphrey of Greensburg, IN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Susan Patterson, Helen Tetrick, Lena Porter & Mary Hooten and his brother Herschel Hooten. Visitation will be Monday, February 18, 2008 from 4-7 PM at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville, IN. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008 at 10:00 AM at St. Louis Church in Batesville with military funeral rites after the mass. Burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to American Legion or St. Louis School.
