Obituary

John F. Sharp, age 68 of the New Point/Batesville area passed away May 12, 2014 at the Waters Skilled Nursing Home in Batesville. He was born on June 25, 1945 in Cincinnati, OH and was the son of the late Hager & Marietta Barnes Sharp. He graduated from Central High School in Cincinnati, OH in 1964. He served his country and joined the Navy-Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. After returning home from the service, he went to Ohio College of Applied Science and also graduated from University of Cincinnati as a quality and manufacturing engineer. He worked at several places, GE Aircraft division at Avondale as a test engineer; Hill-Rom and was a State certified quality and test engineer at the Stone Quarry in Napoleon. He was a member of the Greensburg American Legion, and Eagles. He was also in several other organizations SME, ASQ, USA Dance, Inc. He was also a Harley rider and scuba diver. He enjoyed dancing, going to the symphony and loved the ocean. John is survived by his wife Vergie Walker Wonning-Sharp of Batesville. He has a son, Brian (Katie) Sharp and daughter Tracey Sharp both of Kentucky from a previous marriage (Carol). He is also survived by his stepdaughters Annette Wonning Martin of Florida; Tammie Wonning of Baltimore, MD and Wendy (Brian) Wonning-Blank of Seattle, WA; siblings Richard (Murel) Sharp of Florida, William (Diane) Sharp of Kentucky, Sam (Bernice) Sharp of Lawrenceburg, Patty Sharp & Roy Sharp both of Kentucky; 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, May 18, 2014 from 5-8pm at Meyers Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Dimick officiating. Funeral Services will be Monday, May 19, 2014 at 10:30am followed by the Military Services all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Batesville United Methodist Church, Breast Cancer or to the family to help offset expenses c/o the funeral home.
