Obituary

John Richard Snyder, affectionately known as "Dickie," 83, of Batesville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

Born on June 4, 1943, in Bedford, Kentucky, John was the son of John and Lotti Snyder. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose kindness, strength, and dedication to family will be deeply missed.

John graduated from Trimble County High School in 1962 and proudly served his country in the United States Army for six years. Following his military service, he began a long career with Indiana Kentucky Electric Corporation in Madison, Indiana. In 1985, he transferred to Indiana Michigan Power in Rockport, Indiana, where he continued his dedicated service until retirement.

Never one to sit still, John later worked for the Batesville YMCA and then for Herman Kettle Properties as a maintenance technician.

John enjoyed fast cars, NASCAR, playing Solitaire, cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats, and relaxing with a Busch Light. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family. Those who knew him will remember his love of sports, quiet sense of humor, generosity, strong work ethic, and his legendary inability to return a phone call in a timely manner.

He is survived by his children, Mendy Snyder and Al Snyder; grandchildren, Miranda Cummins, Drew Miller, and Idris Qamar; great-grandchildren, Autumn Miller and Dylan Miller; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lotti Snyder; his beloved wife, Evelyn Snyder; his daughter, Lynn Snyder; and his siblings, Katherine, Charlie, Kenny, Nancy, and Billy.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a memorial service immediately following at 2:00 p.m. all at Meyers Funeral Home, 1150 State Road 46 East, Batesville, Indiana. These services will be together with services for his daughter, Mendy. Military honors for John will be presented following the memorial service.

Family and friends are invited to gather afterward for a wake at the Bierhaus at The Sherman, to celebrate John and Mendy's lives and share memories.

The family extends its sincere gratitude to the caregivers, hospice staff, family, and friends for their compassionate care and support.

John will be greatly missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
