Obituary

Kay (Finholt) Varner died on December 8, 2014 in Batesville. She was born September 16, 1935 to the late Merrill L. Finholt and Cathryn (Schamel) Finholt in Schaller, Iowa. On June 10, 1956 she married Jay Varner in Manhattan, KS. Kay grew up in Manhattan, KS and attended Kansas State University. She was a member of the Batesville United Methodist Church and served as Financial Secretary for 28 years. She enjoyed reading and that interest led to working at the Batesville Public Library for 15 years. Kay was a past member of Hillcrest Country Club where she enjoyed playing bridge and golf. Kay was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Time with family was her highest priority. She is survived by her husband, Jay of 58 years, their three daughters and husbands, Tracy & Rob Bowden, Troy, Michigan; Susan & Bill Stephens, Houston, Texas; Sarah & Eric Heppner, Batesville, Indiana; and seven grandchildren: Drew Bowden, Ryan and Gordon Stephens and Claire, Ellen, Grace and Sally Heppner. A brother, Wayne Finholt, preceded her in death. Visitation will be Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 12 noon - 3:00pm at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, IN. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 3:30pm at Batesville United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Dimick officiating. Burial will be later that day in the Methodist Cemetery in Batesville. Memorials may be made to the Batesville United Methodist Church or the Hansen Center c/o the funeral home.
