Laurence 'Shorty' Gilbert Mobley went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 19, 2017. The son of Virgil and Alice (nee: Plough) Mobley was born on September 16, 1939 in Laurel, Indiana, he was 78 years old.
Laurence 'Shorty' as most knew him, married the love of his life, Rose Fisk on December 28, 1957 in Penntown, Indiana. This year would have marked their 60 th wedding anniversary. He was a proud father of three sons as well as a devoted grandfather of ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He loved the Lord and demonstrated his faith by serving his country, and community. The humble veteran served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1962. Shorty worked for Batesville Casket Company, and for Hillenbrand Corporation until he retired after 45 years. He was an active supporter of Camp Chazon, Scout Troop 620, and New Testament Baptist Church. Shorty also enjoyed a good round of golf and gathering around the table with his family. His empty chair will be deeply felt by all of us during this Christmas season.
He is survived by his sons Larry (Jill) Mobley of Guilford, Kenny (Teresa) Mobley of Greensburg, and Mark (Ellen) Mobley of Batesville; grandchildren Jonathan, Christopher, Andrew, Kathryn, Eloise & Alex Mobley, Benjamin & Nathan Mobley and Olivia & Cole Mobley; great grandchildren, Macie, Tucker, Taylor and Caleb; brothers Jim Mobley of Greensburg, Wayne Mobley of Sunman; sisters Juanita Mobley of Sunman, Sue Harpring of Batesville, Ruth Ann Horn of Madison and Barb Bennett of California.
