Obituary

Lois Janet Placke, age 91 of Batesville Indiana passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Aspen Place Health Care in Greensburg, IN.    Born on March 23, 1925 in Guilford, IN she was the daughter of Moray and Laura (Lange) Darling.

70 years ago, on March 30, 1946 Lois married Irvin L. Placke in Newport, KY.  The 1942 Guilford High School graduate was a longtime employee of Nolte's Drug Store as a store clerk.  Lois was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Huntersville where she was a former Sunday School teacher and member of the Church Women's Guild.

Lois was a great cook.  Her specialties included, applesauce, apple pie and mashed potatoes.  She taught the whole family how to make her mashed potatoes.  Lois always had a special dish for everyone at the table.  Thanksgiving was a special time for her as well.

She was meticulous about her house, as she always kept it the neatest.  Lois was also a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan, along with the whole family.  She loved all of her family, her children, grandchildren and was a wonderful wife, mom, grandma and great grandma.

In addition to her husband, Irvin, she will be truly missed by her daughter Connie Hayden (Kim) of Greensburg, IN, and son Jim Placke (Velma) of Batesville; along with four grandchildren Kurt Placke, Jamie Arkenberg, Brandon Hayden and Patrick Hayden; plus six great grandchildren Tyler Placke, Alexa Arkenberg, Austin Hayden, Alexandria Hayden, Arison Hayden and Andon Hayden.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers Horace, Clyde, George, Orville, Arthur and Marion Darling and sisters Evelyn Darling, Blanche Baker, Jane Caldwell, Edith Louks and Jean Hoffmeier.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 28 from 5-8pm at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, IN.  Funeral Services, will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at St. John United Church of Christ in Batesville, IN.  Rev. Linda and Dennis Frische-Mouri are officiating.  Burial to follow in St. John Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the church cemetery fund or Cancer Research c/o Meyers Funeral Home.
