Melvin "Barney" Burger Jr., age 68 of Batesville, IN passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Hospice of Blue Ash in Blue Ash, OH. Born July 5, 1944 in Cincinnati, OH he was the son of Melvin & Lora Mae (Reynolds) Burger Sr. He was formerly employed at Stedmans Foundry in Aurora, IN. Barney was the oldest of six children and loved growing up in southeastern Indiana. When he was younger, his family lived on a farm and he enjoyed helping with the chores and being outdoors. He also loved to fish he had quite a collection of fishing poles, tackle boxes, lures and such, which he used at his family's cabin in Milan and had fun shopping at The Bass Pro store. Mowing was another favorite past time that Barney took pleasure in, he liked to take his time in order to make the lawn look nice and was also among the first to rake and remove leaves in the fall months. However, Christmas was definitely Barney's favorite holiday. He loved Christmas decorations from having several trees to an extensive outdoor figurine collection, especially ones that lit up and played music. His favorite car was a Corvette and his favorite color was blue. He was very resourceful and was definitely a "jack of all trades", who was able to creatively tinker with and build items such as baby jar Christmas trees, plastic Easter egg lights and easily make household and mechanical repairs. In recent years, Barney spent rehabilitative time at the Waters of Batesville, after a heart attack and later a fall that left him with lingering cardiac problems. There, he made many wonderful friends and was a blessing to all he encountered. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
