Obituary

Ronald Lloyd Dickey Sr., 83 years of age, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2010 at his home in Batesville, IN. Born May 14, 1927 to Herschel & Elsie (Freeland) Dickey, in Batesville, IN as a twin to a dear brother, Donald F. Dickey. A veteran of WWII, he served as Seabees (construction battalions) of the U.S. Navy in Guam. On January 6, 1945 he married, Carol Schein in Batesville, IN and they proudly raised 13 children together until the time of her death on May 4, 2005. Mr. Dickey took a very active roll in his community throughout his life. He was a former Baseball Little League Coach and Boy Scout leader, earning the Silver Beaver Award for his dedicated service to impacting young lives. He served as a Batesville City Council Member, President Pro-Term and Ripley County Precinct Committeeman for many years. He was a proud member of the Republican Party. As a member of the Batesville Lodge F&AM #668 he served as Secretary for 33 years and was a Past Master. The 72 year member of the Batesville United Methodist Church, served as Sunday School Superintendent for 7 years. Mr. Dickey was also a member of the Batesville Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1130, American Legion Prell-Bland Post #271 and VFW Post #3183. His active volunteerism earned him the 'Batesville Man of the Year Award' from the Batesville Jaycees in the 1960's and he was honored by the Indiana State Legislature for being an 'Outstanding Citizen'. After serving 40+ years at Hill-Rom as a Traffic Manager, he retired in 1989. The avid Cincinnati Reds fan enjoyed watching the Andy Griffith Show, playing golf and a morning cup of coffee and good conversation with fellow friends. Of course, he truly enjoyed spending time with his family including many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be truly missed by his 13 children; Janice Koeneman of Grand Rapids, MI, Dale L. Dickey of Batesville, William Dickey of Loveland, OH, Cynthia Linville of Batesville, Daniel Dickey of Batesville, Amy Lauber of Osgood, Debra Rozales of Indianapolis, Kerry Dickey of Waterloo, Kimberly Hastings of Carmel,Carron Elser of Cincinnati, OH, Ron L. Dickey Jr. of Batesville, Michele Eich of Crystal Lake, IL and Andrea Wade of Batesville; 24 Grand Children and 12 Great Grand Children; along with his very dear brother and life long friend, Donald F. Dickey of Batesville, IN. Visitation, Thursday, July 8, 2010 from 3-8pm at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, IN with Batesville Chapter #348 Eastern Star Service at 8pm followed by Masonic Services. Funeral Services on Friday, July 9, 2010 at 11:00am following one hour of visitation from 10-11am in the Batesville United Methodist Church. Rev. Larry Marhanka and Rev. Larry E. Dimick officiating. Burial to follow in St. John Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites. Memorials may be given to Batesville F&AM Lodge #668 or Rescue 10 c/o the funeral home.
