Ronald Allen Stirn, age 71 years of Salt Creek passed away Monday, June 21, 2010 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Born August 31, 1938 in Salt Creek he was the son of the late Allen & Vivian (Holman) Stirn. Mr. Stirn played a lot of softball until he turned 60 and met his wife Kathryn Masters at a game in Rushville. They were married on September 29, 1979 in Rushville, IN. He was 1 out of 2 people when he graduated from Peppertown Grade School then graduated from Batesville High School in 1956. He was a life long farmer on his own farm. He was a member of the Metamora Church of Christ. Ronald Allen Stirn enjoyed being on the farm. It was only once that his wife, Kathy, was able to get him off of it to take a vacation to Port Huron with their friends Tony & Karen Cox. In his younger days he enjoyed quail and squirrel hunting. He would never pass up the opportunity to sit on his back porch with his brother, Arlen, and other friends and family and attempt to solve the problems of the world right there in the holler of Salt Creek. Pronounced by all that knew him as "Saw Crick." In the farming duo of Arlen and Ron, Ron was the planter of the beans, driver of the big farm truck to unload the crops, and bailer of the hay. He loved farming but was always worrying about the weather and had just gotten a son-in-law who is still very eager to learn how to farm. He had his rituals and he followed them every day. His daughter, Amber, knew that at 3:45 everyday he would go outside to do his chores so he would make it back into the house by 4:30 to watch Who Wants to be A Millionaire. After that it was the 5 o'clock news and you didn't dare say you wanted to watch something else. But it never failed that dinner would be ready right when the sports were coming on. There were always sports on the television. He enjoyed rooting for the Chicago Cubs because "they're so bad I just feel sorry for them." For most of the game he would be heard yelling at the TV saying that with two bad knees and a bad shoulder he could play better. Mr. Stirn is survived by his wife Kathryn Stirn, son Ronnie Allen Stirn Jr. of Indianapolis, IN & daughter Amber Lynn (Brandon) Fisk of Lake Santee, IN. He will also be missed by his siblings Arlen (Carol) Stirn & Darlene (Bob) McCreary both of Salt Creek, 14 nieces & nephews and numerous great nieces & nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, June 24, 2010 from 4-8pm at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, IN and 9:30am until time of service on Friday, June 25, 2010 at Metamora Church of Christ. Services will be Friday, June 25, 2010 at 10:00am at Metamora Church of Christ with Bob McCreary & James Burgess officiating. Burial will be in Peppertown Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Metamora Church of Christ or Margaret Mary Community Hospital Hospice c/o the funeral home.
