Sarah (Sally) Wilhelm, 90, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on May 14, 2024.  Sally was born on March 31, 1934, in Batesville, Indiana where she spent her entire life. She was fortunate to have two families.

Survivors include daughter, Susie McMillan (Kendall) and son, Gregory Walke (Garlyn).  Granddaughters, Christina Heppner (Erick) and Lee Ann Heppner (Ryan).  Grandsons, Darren Hepper and Anthony Walke.  Great-granddaughters Kendal Hornberger, Reagan Hornberger, Kylie Heppner, Amelia Heppner, Emma Cheek, Lydia Cheek, and Kaylee Hochstetler.  Great-grandsons, Jake Cruse and Landon Heppner, and a Great-great-granddaughter, Kora Mae Bischoff.

Sally married Roy Wilhelm Jr. in 1989, who survives and gained a Stepson, Roy (Mike) Wilhelm III (Jackie) and a Stepdaughter, Mindy Wilhelm.  A Step Grandson, Alex Wilhelm (Baily), and two Step Great-granddaughters Charlie and Danielle Wilhelm.  Survivors also include Nephews Randy Smith, Lance Smith (Sarah), and several nieces and nephews from the Walke side of the family.

Sally is preceded in death by both of her parents, Ray and Ellen Smith, stepmother Mary Smith, husband Anthony (Tony) Walke, two brothers, Wayne and Alfred Smith, nephew Ray Smith, and great-grandson Noah Bischoff.

Sally was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville. Upon graduation from the University of Cincinnati, she taught Health and Physical Education for the Batesville Community School Corporation.  She took a couple year break in the early 1960's to have her son. Then she returned to teaching Health and Physical Education in 1965 for another 10 years for both Oldenburg Academy and Oldenburg Grade School.  When she finally retired in 1975, she looked to the Batesville Eagles Aerie #1130 for a part-time position while entering strong into the American Legion Auxiliary.  She was Indiana American Legion Auxiliary District 9 President in 1979.  She started through the chairs of the American Legion Auxiliary and became Department President in July of 1989.  Sally worked on the nine National Committees until she reached her final goal of National Historian.  She held this office from 1998 to 1999. In addition, she held many offices for the Batesville Eagles Ladies Auxiliary over the years.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, June 30th from 1-4pm with Words of Remembrance at 2pm all the Batesville FOE Aerie #1130, 104 W. Pearl St., Batesville, IN 47006.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the "Summer Food For Kids of Batesville" by bringing to the future services or mailing to Meyers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 202, Batesville, IN 47006.
