Savitaben Somabhai Patel, 97, of Rising Sun, Indiana passed away on April 9, 2022. She was born on November 15, 1924 in Sandesar, Gujarat, India to Ambalal and Surajben Patel. She was married to Somabhai Patel and they resided in Shihol, Gujarat, India.

Savitaben immigrated to and settled in the United States in Chicago, IL from 1984-2009. She then moved to Rising Sun.

Savitaben is survived by her children Manjulaben (Dinubhai) Patel, Champaben (Sureshbhai) Patel, Mahendrabhai (Kailashben) Patel, Manharbhai (Kantaben) Patel; grandchildren Dharmesh (Minal) Patel, Sandip (Dhruvita) Patel, Shilpa (Trushar) Patel, Pradipa (Pareshkumar) Patel, Hitesh (Gopi) Patel, Virajkumar (Charu) Patel, Viral (Shilpa) Patel, Bella (the late Jonathan) Hall, Jayesh (Monika) Patel, Disha (Apurva) Patel, Ketan (Mary) Patel; 23 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Somabhai Patel, her two daughters Indira Patel and Saroj Patel as well as her siblings Dahyabhai Patel, Jashbhai Patel and Narshinhabhai Patel.

Savitaben enjoyed being active by taking walks outdoors. She enjoyed cooking and was often found cooking in the kitchen making her signature dish of "Dal (Lentil Stew), Bath (White Rice), Saag (Sauteed Veggies with Spices) and Roti (Homemade Wheat Tortillas). She also enjoyed watching game shows such as The Price is Right and this was how she learned to understand the English Language. She was an avid storyteller and fiercely devoted to her family. Her kindness also knew no bounds and was a friend to all those she met and will be truly missed by many.

Visitation and funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 10:00am at Meyers Funeral Home, 1150 State Rd 46, Batesville, IN 47006 followed by Cremation at Sawyer Pickett Funeral & Cremation Services 115 S. State St. North Vernon, IN 47265.
