Vernon Cornett, age 83 of New Point, IN passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012 at University Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. Born August 20, 1929 in Blackey, KY he was the son of Preston & Ethel (Caudill) Cornett. Vernon married Christine Smith in Whitesburg, KY and she preceded him in death. He worked for Chrysler in Detroit, MI and retired from Hill-Rom after 35 years. Vernon enjoyed playing bingo, fishing, going to Canada with his daughter and watching the ships, but most of all, he enjoyed UK Basketball. He also loved his family very much, being around his grandchildren was what he lived for, and they will all miss him dearly. Vernon was a US Army Veteran of Korea, devoted member of New Point Christian Church and the New Point Lodge F&AM. Vernon is survived by his daughters Teresa (Lester)Moody of Osgood, IN & Cheryl (Daniel) Agapie of Sunman, IN; step mother Oma Cornett of New Point, IN; 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and siblings Randy Cornett of New Point, IN, Sam Cornett of Batesville, IN, Gary Cornett of New Point, IN, Ann Krieger and Kay Muckerheide both of New Point, IN & Janice Ufferman of Destin, FL. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter Roberta Mays, 1 grandson and his sister Marjorie Ranger. Visitation will be Friday, November 23, 2012 from 5-8pm at New Point Christian Church with Masonic Services at 7:45pm. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 10:00am at the church with Mark Vice officiating. Burial will be in Rossburg Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites.
