Virgil Walter Kessens, age 86 years of Batesville, IN passed away Monday, January 17, 2011 at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville. Born August 18, 1924 in Batesville, he was the son of Walter & Frieda (Henry) Kessens. He was a life- long farmer on his own farm, member of St. Paul Lutheran Church Crossroads and F.O.E. Chapter 1130. On April 12, 1947 he married Eileen Klostermeyer and she preceded him in death on June 16, 2004. Virgil was good at working with his hands. He made many things, including picnic tables, his sons deck, utility sheds and horse barn. He was also noted for his dancing. He and his wife danced many Saturday nights away. They enjoyed traveling with their friends, Ray & Alvina Westerfeld and Howard & Pat Westerfeld. He loved driving tractors, fourwheelers, and fishing on Sundays. He enjoyed his grandchildren. Virgil was known for his great sense of humor. Virgil is survived by his daughter Donna Harrelson of Greensburg, IN; sons and daughter-in-laws Gary & Cynthia Kessens, Robert & Joyce Kessens and Kenneth & Diane Kessens all of Batesville, IN; 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, nephew Leslie Kessens of Osgood, IN & niece Shirley Nuhring of Batesville, IN and sister Virginia Kessens of Batesville, IN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Eileen Kessens, daughter Kathleen Krieger and brother Earl Kessens. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2011 from 4-8pm at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, IN. Funeral Services will be Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 11:00am at St. Paul Lutheran Church Crossroads with Pastor Robin Owen officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Safe Passage c/o the funeral home.
