Virginia Kessens, age 84 of Batesville, IN passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015 at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville. Born August 17, 1930 in Batesville, she was the daughter of Walter & Freda (Henry) Kessens. Virginia was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Crossroads, a member of the Leisure Ladies of the church, former church council member and she helped serve many funeral meals. She was on the executive committee at St. Andrews, a volunteer group, and a member of the Red Hat Ladies. The awesome cook was always making crust for pies because she baked a lot of pies. She had other specialties as well, like her homemade chocolate syrup, popcorn balls, taffy and homemade noodles. Virginia was also a good seamstress. She made quilts, patched clothes and made dresses for her and others. She worked in her garden a lot as she enjoyed that along with doing various crafts. Virginia enjoyed getting together for birthdays and holidays with her family and friends. She was a special aunt to her family and a great listener to all. Virginia is survived by her nieces Donna Harrelson & Shirley Nuhring and nephews Leslie Kessens, Robert Kessens and Kenneth Kessens. She will also be missed by many great nieces & nephews and great great nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Earl & Virgil Kessens, niece Kathleen Krieger and nephew Gary Kessens. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 5-8pm and Wednesday, March 4th from 10:00 - 10:30am at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, IN. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 11:00am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Crossroads with Pastor Sue Socha officiating. Burial will follow services at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery or Batesville Food Pantry c/o the funeral home.
